Oscar
"Gonzo" Gonzalez
has been in law enforcement for 22 years and a K-9 officer
for 18 years. He has been working for the Wilton Manors Police
Department, Broward County, Florida for the past 18 years.
Prior to his current assignement, he served with the U.S.
Air Force as a patrol, narcotic, & explosive dog handler
for 4 years. Oscar has been a certified State of Florida K-9
team instructor since 1997 and currently instructs at the
Broward Community College Institute of Public Safety Police
Academy. He was the co-founder of the Police K-9 Training
Institute.
In 1993, Oscar proposed and implemented the first canine unit
for the City of Wilton Manors. He recently retired his third
canine partner who was a dual purpose narcotics dog. Since
1993, they have been responsible for the arrests and prosecution
of well over 800 persons to include the seizure of narcotics
and property that exceeded the street value of 4 million dollars
.
